Vision
An only child, I've always been really observant, enjoyed connecting with adults and was a good listener. I picked up on other peoples emotions and noticed details in my environment others missed.
I’ve wanted my own practice since I was seven. I remember watching a movie scene with a therapist and client laid out on their couch. Space Jam to be exact. I told myself, “I want to do that!” I wanted to help others professionally.
During my Masters program, I wasn’t sure if I’d finish for various reasons. I was struggling to work with clients and there was a lot going on. But I found the right help and successfully earned my degree.
I encountered delays and setbacks in my doctoral program as well. My health seriously suffered and I had to extend my dissertation project. I’m blessed to report that I completed my doctorate in 2022.
Today, almost 30 years later I’m running a successful practice. I never let go of the original vision in my mind from childhood. I knew it was something I was supposed to do. I still feel that way. There were many obstacles, set backs and near death experiences but by the grace of God, I am here.
I’m encouraging you to hold onto your vision. Whatever it is. You may encounter setbacks, delays and discouragement but DO NOT GIVE UP. We must determine if the vision is what we should be doing (another topic for another day). But today, I’d encourage you to write your vision down. Pray over it. Meditate on it. Visualize it. Feel it. Speak it. DO IT.
Prompts:
1) What is something you know you are called to do?
2) How do you handle setbacks and distractions?
3) What do you need to start prioritizing that will move you closer to your vision? What do you need to do less?
